Thanksgiving Children's Books

We have been spending the whole month of November reading Thanksgiving books. We borrowed them from the library and have read each of them at least 5 times. (Stephanie is in a big reading phase right now. One morning we read every book in the library bag...that was 17 books.)

Here are some of our favorites for Thanksgiving:

Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson

The Littlest Pilgrim by Brandi Dougherty

Fancy Nancy: Our Thanksgiving Banquet by Jane O'Connor

Thank You For Thanksgiving by Julie Markes

Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland

Over the River: A Turkey's Tale by Derek Anderson

These books are all the perfect length for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. They held Stephanie's attention, they talk about Thanksgiving and giving thanks in language that a little one can comprehend, and they are all very sweet.

(Sadly, one of the books I remember from growing up didn't go over well. A Cranberry Thanksgiving by Wende Devlin was too lengthy and old for her this year.)

Have you read any books on Thanksgiving and giving thanks to your children? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

    1. Haha, I used to just buy all the books I wanted for my littles, but then I realized I was spending SO MUCH money and bookshelf space is at a premium around here, so the library is perfect for us :)

  4. Last year I blogged a whole month of Thanksgiving activities and books. Many are still too old for your little ones but it'll give you ideas for the future. You can read my list of posts at http://stephaniesmommybrain.blogspot.com/2011/11/thanksgiving-kids-activities-and-books.html

    1. Thanks Stephanie, I'll check it out! I have so many fun projects and ideas for when my kids are a little older. All my stuff from the preschool teacher days. It's hard to remember that my Stephanie is only 2 and developmentally not ready for a lot of it, lol

  5. Thank you so much for this list! I'm always looking for new books to introduce to ChloƩ. We've already started on her Christmas books, but I should head to the library to see if any of these are there.

    1. I tried so hard to focus on Thanksgiving instead of jumping into Christmas...but this week I couldn't resist. There will be a list of Christmas children's books coming soon...since we have a pile from the library in our house now :)

  6. Well after nap time I'm going to head over to the library. I haven't even been to my local one here in NY. This will help entertain those three 2 year olds on thanksgiving!
